A special committee was set up in the Far East Russian region to deal with forest fires and other emergencies.
The committee, which is set up at the office of the Russian president’s envoy to the region, consists of heads of territorial executive bodies, police, the prosecutor’s office, Emergencies Ministry officials and representatives of the Far East military district and the border guard regional department.
The first meeting discussed the most pressing problems: prevention of seasonal floods and forest fires.
Meteorologists forecast that the summer will be dry and hot and warn about possibility of large fires. At present, the situation is kept under control.
However, according to the regional centre of the Emergencies Ministry, about 6,000 hectares of forests are on fire in the region now.
