ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution

A Multilateral Agreement and Partner in the Global Wildland Fire Network

Following the Eleventh Joint Meeting of the ASEAN Working Groups on Sub-Regional Fire Fighting Arrangements (SRFAs) for Sumatra and Borneo (Singapore, 12-13 August 2002) it was decided that the ASEAN Secretariat will serve as a coordinating unit for the Regional South East Asia Wildland Fire Network. At a later stage the ASEAN Co-ordinating Centre for Transboundary Haze Pollution Control hat will be established in accordance with the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution will take over this function, including regional fire management coordination. In May 2003 the ASEAN Secretariat initiated the conceptual design of the South East Asia Fire and Haze Information Centre. This facility will largely take over the role of the regional network information system.
