Forest Fires in Australia

On 4 January 2015, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard of NASA’s Aqua satellite captured the picture (upper) of a fire near the city of Adelaide in Southern Australia. The lower picture was acquired by MODIS onboard of Terra satellite on 3 January 2015 when temperatures raised to soaring 34°C. Both images show large smoke plumes drifting Northwest (top) and Southeast (bottom). The fire razed at least 26 homes, injured 28 people and left 1,000 properties without power. The fires are outlined in red.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard of NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this image of the fire affecting the Western part of Australia on 04 January 2015. On top, a fire burns through National Parks and State Forest to the South of Perth. On the bottom, the fires affecting Perth Hills threatening homes and keeping a ”watch and act” alert on some areas.
