Bushfires in Northern Australia

Severe fire weather was hampering firefighters’ efforts tokeep bush fires under control in Northern Territory in early October 2007. Bushfires that had been burning for several weeks in remote areas were starting toapproach property, according to newsreports from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. This image of northernAustralia from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite shows the locationand extent of fires (outlined in red) on 30 September 2007.
