Several fires broke out Wednesday in Qerdaha and Hafah in the Lattakia area, in the north of Syria. A few villages had to be evacuated and numerous roads were closed. Four firefighters died and others suffered smoke inhalation: two senior officials along with heads of technical services and many other fire fighters were brought to hospital after inhaling smoke.
According to information submitted by the Turkish Forest Service to GFMC around 50 ha were burnt in Turkey. In Syria around 1000 ha were burnt. The fire was brought under control on 22 September. From the Turkish side assistance by 4 helicopters, 25 fire trucks, 8 bulldozer, 15 technicians and 150 firefighters were provided to Syria
