Fires in Georgia and Florida

On 16 May 2007, the Moderate Resolution ImagingSpectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite detected several active fire locations (outlined in red) in northernFlorida and southern Georgia. The Bugaboo Fire straddles the state line, and ithad burned more than 250,000 acres as of May 17. Hundreds of residences, maturetimber (both on tree plantations and in state parks), and habitat for threatenedand endangered species were threatened by the fire.
