Scores of fires (red dots) burned across the Indonesian island of Sumatra on 23 September 2007, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed over head and captured this image. The fires may be a mix of intentional agricultural fires, and accidental fires that got out of control.
