Thelatest EFFIS Fire Dangerforecast still shows reasonable fire risk for the Balkan coastal region:

Albania

Forest fires continue to burn in the north and northwest of the country. Arequest for international assistence is still active.

This map illustrates satellite-detected fire locations over the affected areas of Albania. These site locations represent all active fires as detected by the MODIS Aqua and Terra satellites between the dates of 1 to 31 July 2007. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field.

Croatia
Strong winds fueled the fires around Dubrovnik in the night of 7August 2007. A huge fire approached the neighbouring country of Bosnia andHerzegovina. About 500 firefighters werew working on a 15 km fire front. Becausethe winds were decreasing it was possible to use aircraft for fire suppressionagain.

The fires around Dubrovnik could be brought under control.However, several villages have been cut from power and water supply. Meanwhilean area of 3 000 ha has been burnt.

However,  a calculation of the McArthur FDI based onthe following weather forecast for Thursday (55, yellow) and Friday (51, yellow)shows that firefighters may be able to contain most blazes in the coming daysaround Dubrovnik, Croatia:

Macedonia
The fire situation in Macedonia has improved significantly, sono more international assistance is required.
