Started by lightning at the end of May, the Negeethluk River Fire had grown to about1,000 ha as of5 June 2006. This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite was captured on 5 June 2006; the active fire is outlined in red. A cloud of smoke spreadnorthwest.

This multispectral combined image was taken on 6 June 2006 andshows the large Negeethluk River Fire located in the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge in SW Alaska.
