A big fire broke out in Uddel (near Apeldoorn) in a nature conservation area belonging mainly to Crown Territory on 6 May 2006. The fire devastated around 100 ha of forest, heathlands and grasslands. Due to dry weather conditions and strong easterly winds the fire propagated quickly. No injuries were reported, evacuations were not necessary. The Dutch Air Force assisted with a Chinook helicopter, carrying a fire-bucket of 10,000 l which was emptied about 10 times over the fire.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASAs Aqua satellite captured this image of the fire. The actively burning portions of the fires are outlined in red.

De Koninklijke Luchtmacht heeft in de namiddag en avondbijstand verleend bij de bos- en heidebrand bij Uddel, nabij Apeldoorn.
Een Chinook helikopter van 298 Squadron maakte vanaf vliegbasis Soesterberg tienzogenoemde runs om het vuur te doven. De luchtmacht reageerde daarmee op eenoproep van de burgemeester van Apeldoorn voor bijstand. Om 17.45 uur koos dehelikopter het luchtruim om water in te nemen iets ten noorden van Paleis HetLoo.
Na het droppen van de watermassas kon om 20.20 uur het sein brand meesterworden gegeven. Er is ongeveer honderd hectare bos, heide en grasland in vlammenopgegaan. De grond behoort tot de Kroondomeinen.
