Day Fire in Southern California

Day Fire in Southern California

22September 2006

The winds spreading smoke from the Day Fire northwest of Los Angeles, California, have shifted once again. On 20 September 2006, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of smoke spreading southwest over Los Angeles. The day before, smoke blew northeast, while on 17 September the smoke blew west, over the Pacific Ocean. Places where MODIS detected actively burning fire are outlined in red.
