Carmel Forest Fire Continues to Burn Out of Control
03 January 2006
Over 25 fire companies are working to bring a major forest fire under control in the Carmel area of northern Israel. Officials theorize the blaze may have been started as a result of carelessness involving an area IDF training maneuver, although this has not yet been confirmed.
Over 700 dunam (175 acres = 70 ha) are involved in the blaze which is being spread by the strong easterly winds. Fire fighting officials reported earlier that at present, there is no danger to homes in the area.
