Latest MODIS Scenes 18 April 2005

On 18 April 2005 agricultural and forest fires continue to burn in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) and the Republic of Korea (South Korea). NASA image courtesy the MODIS Rapid Response Team, NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center

The following information on damages caused by the Yangyang forest fire last week (see 07 April 2005 and 08 April 2005) was transmitted by the Korean Forest Research Institute, Coordinator of the Regional Northeast Asian Wildland Fire Network, on 17 April 2005:

  • 150 homes and a total of 390 people affected
  • 416 structures destroyed
  • 22 cultural sites affected
  • 973ha forests damaged

No injuries were reported
