Peppin Fire on El Capitan, New Mexico
According to the National Interagency Fire Centers morning briefing report,the Peppin Fire in New Mexico was 80 percent contained on Tuesday, 08 June 2004.This image of the lightning-caused fire, which began on 15 May, was obtained bythe the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on 07 June. The actively burning areas of the nearly 50 000-acrewildfire are outlined in red in the scene, while most of the terrain in the ElCapitan Mountains where the fire is burning is hidden by smoke (Source: EarthObservatory).

Fire in Colorado
Heat signature (red) and smoke plume (light blue haze) are visible from theGreasewood Fire in Colorado, burning in grass and sagebrush. As of 07 June, 1500 acres had burned and the fire was uncontained. This information is from theNational Interagency Fire Center’s Incident Management Situation Report from 08June 2004.
