Firesin West Africa
A high concentration of fires (red dots) was detected in southern Guinea (center)in West Africa on 10 March  2003, by the ModerateResolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aquasatellite. Other countries shown are (clockwise from top left) Senegal(surrounding Gambia), Mali, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, andGuinea-Bissau. Over the Atlantic Ocean (left), dust from the Sahara Desertcreates a tan haze. The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters perpixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximumspatial resolution of 250meters.
