Fire Situation in Australia:
The bushfire season has had a surprisingly early start in southern New SouthWales with volunteer firefighters currently battling nearly 30 separate fires inthe Bega Valley, Eurobodalla, Shoalhaven and Mulwaree Districts. Two taskforces, totaling ten heavy bushfire tankers and some 60 volunteer Rural FireService firefighters from Wollongong and Kiama/Shellharbour districts have beenplaced on standby to go to assist in combating the fires. In Bega Valley 18 RFSfire tankers are contending with 6 fires including a scrub fire at Tura Beach atwhich property has come under threat, four separate fires at Kiah and an 80hagrass/scrub fire at Millingandi that began around 11.00am. In the EurobodallaDistrict 25 fire tankers are fighting 17 separate bush and scrub fires. TheShoalhaven District has been hit by seven bush and scrub fires of which two areconsidered significant at this time. Three bushfires began overnight in theMilton area alone. Approximately 20 bushfire tankers are currently deployed onthese fires. At Towrang, in the Mulwaree District, 8 fire tankers are contendingwith another scrub fire. NSW Rural Fire Service volunteer firefighters in seventankers from Penrith District also extinguished at Castlereagh in western Sydneyearlier today. The Blue Mountains District also reported a small bushfire thismorning in the Mt Victoria area.
