The National Meteorological Service provides a daily index of fire danger:
The index determines the meteorological conditions that influence the initiation and propagation of wildland fires. The required meteorological data (temperature, relative humidity, wind and precipitation at 18:00 UTC) are collected by a synoptic network of stations. Five risk classes are provided:
- bajo = low (green)
- moderado = moderate (yellow)
- alto = high (orange)
- muy alto = very high (ochre)
- extremo = extreme (red)
