Integrated Fire Management Expert Group IFMEG
Integrated Fire Management (IFM) addresses the complex variables and challenges of human-caused fires that result in fire becoming an unwanted symptom of other underlying problems of land use. IFM involves the facilitation of multi-stakeholder and community consultation processes to develop a common understanding about fire-related concerns and issues where fire management is understood as an integral element of sustainable resource management and certification.
IFM is based on two pillars: Cooperation between local communities and land managers to find compromises and solutions in developing a fire management system and a comprehensive fire management strategy combining fire information, prevention and fuel management, preparedness and fire suppression activities.
IFMEG is a consortium of researchers and practitioners experienced in all aspects of fire management and provides services before, during and after wildland fires.
