Florida will be warm and dry through Friday (1 January 1999). Southwest winds will increase ahead of a cold front on Friday and Saturday. The cold front will bring an increased chance of showers, primarily to the northern part of the state, on Saturday and Sunday. Breezy northwest winds will occur Sunday through Monday as the front moves out of the state. Dry conditions will prevail the remainder of the week. High temperatures will range from the 60s (15°C) in the north to lower 80s (27°C) in the south through Saturday (2 January 1999). By Monday, temperatures will cool to the 50s (10°C) in the north and lower 70s (21°C) in the south. Some remarks to the NOAA AVHRR satellite imagery: The high-temperature events depicted by satellite in the Southeast must not necessarily be wildfires. At this time of the year prescribed burning operations are conducted routinely.
