Forest Fire in Turkey: 18 June 1999

Report by GFMC correspondent Ertugrul Bilgili, Trabzon University:
A fire started in an agricultural land escaped into forested areas near Denizli at 14:50 on Wednesday, consuming 35 ha of forest. The initial attack crews were on the site of the fire at 15:10. After five hours of strugle the fire was finally under control at 20:30 same day.
To fight the fire along with the available fire crews, 3 helicopters, 11 fire trucks, 5 bulldozers participated in fire fighting.
The fire is assumed to have been caused by a cigarette stub thrown out from a car.
