The Secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) is organizing a “Power Breakfast” on forest fire prevention on Thursday 14 September 2000 from 9:30 to 10:30, in the general context of the celebrations of the International Day for Disaster Reduction, scheduled to be held on 11 October 2000. This Press Conference / breakfast will benefit from the participation of two international experts in the field of forest fires, Mr. Johann G. Goldammer from the Global Fire Monitoring Centre in Freiburg, Germany, and Colonel Gilardo, from the French “Entente interdépartementale en vue de la protection de la foret et de l’environnement contre l’incendie”. The experts will answer to specific questions on forest fires. An Information Kit including scientific articles on forest fires, a children booklet, specific country case studies and other supporting material on forest fires will be distributed during the Power Breakfast, together with a Press Release on the theme of the World 2000 Promotion Campaign on “Disaster Prevention, Education and Youth”, with a specific illustration on forest fires.
