Forest fires have caused severe damages on the Italian Mediterranean island, Sicily. Due to temperatures above 40 degrees on Wednesday fires   raged in the proximity of the island capital Palermo. The fire, fanned by the Scirocco wind blowing from the Sahara, has threatened on a front of 20 kilometers also people.

3,000 hectares of woods and bushland have been destroyed. After 24 hours the fire was under control.
