Four People Killed in Forest Fire

The Chief of National Forest Fire Service of Spain, General Direction of Nature Conservation of the Ministry of Environment, Mr. Ricardo Vélez, informed the GFMC today that in a tragic accident 4 people were killed in a forest fire in Huelva Province, West of Sevilla. The forest fire burned ca. 300 ha.

Several days ago a large fire burned 2000 ha in the Sierra de la Culebra, Zamora Province, close to the border to Portugal. The fire is under control now. Four Canadair waterbombers had been dispatched to support ground fire crews.

In Spain the fire danger remains high although the vegetation is still moist.
