The following significant events were identified by Satellite Analysis Branch meteorologists and reviewed by the OSEI support team:

Heat signatures (red) are visible from fires burning along the west coast of Mexico.
Also visible are some afternoon thunderstorms.

An analysisof the total fire situation in Central America in 1998 “Incendios forestales y agrícolas en Céntroamerica” is provided by the “Central American Protected Areas System” (CAPAS). Fire maps of 1998 are available from the “Programa Frontera Agricola”.
