NATIONAL POST, FRIDAY, MARCH 31, 2000
Northern Ontario could face one of the worst forest fire seasons in the history of the province, the Ministry of Natural Resources has warned. An early spring has left the forest floor dry. Three fire crews are preparing equipment and taking their mandatory annual training three weeks ahead of schedule, the ministry said. Officials are also concerned about the lack of leaves on deciduous trees as they contain moisture that dampens forests.
