The following significant events were identified by Satellite Analysis Branch meteorologists and reviewed by the OSEI support team:

Heat signatures (red) and smoke (light blue) are visible from fires burning in Argentina.
The vegetation where the fires are currently burning is very similar to those described in
Fire in the Caldenal Region (Central Argentina)

The large fires have been reported repeatedly by the GFMC:
First reports were provided on 12, 13, 15 and 21 December 2000.
