The joint GTZ/GFMC/UNDP mission spent the whole day today in Lower U Minh forest together with Mr. Nguyen Ba Thu,Director of the Forest Protection Department, who is currently in the field. It was reported that as of today thesurface fire is under control. Only the ground fire is still burning that causes small surface fire when there is astrong wind. Military and police as well as forces from neighboring provinces have withdrawn from Lower U Minh.There are only 400 soldiers of Ca Mau province remain in the field. Currently initial needs are identified for supporting the
fire-fighting capacities on site.
