V International Conference on Forest Fire Research

27 to 30 November 2006, Coimbra, Portugal 


Following the previous four International Conference on Forest Fire Research that were held every four years since 1990 in Coimbra, Portugal, the fifth of the series of these international meetings is planned to be held from 27 to 30 November 2006.

The scope of the Conference is to bring together scientists from various parts of the World working on different aspects of forest fires, to encourage the presentation of latest advances of research, to promote the discussion of methodologies and results, and to increase international cooperation. The format of the Conference will include formal sessions, with keynote lectures, oral presentation of papers, and poster sessions.

 Subjects

A wide range of topics involved in this multi-disciplinary problem will be covered by the authors during the Conference. Therefore papers or posters dealing with the most relevant topics related to forest fires on a scientific basis will be presented.

The following list of subjects is given as a guideline for the eventual organisation of the sessions:

  • Fire Weather
  • Fire Behaviour
  • Fire Ecology
  • Fire Management
  • Fire Safety
  • Human and Institutional Factors
  • Urban Wildland Interface

 

Abstracts

Authors willing to submit a paper must send an Abstract written in English, of no less than 300 words, but not exceeding three A4 pages, including key figures an tables, before 31 December 2005. The abstracts will be refereed by the Scientific Committe of the Conference.

 

Please be sure to use the following formatting rules:

 

  • Abstract title; Times New Roman, capital letters, size 14, centered
  • Authors; Times New Roman, size 12. The authors names should appear below the title
  • followed by their institutional address, telephone, fax number and email
  • Body text; Times New Roman, size 12, single spacing

The authors will be informed of the acceptance of papers by 31 March 2006. Detailed information about the format of the full version will be given at the same time.

The full version of the papers accepted for oral presentation or for poster presentation should be sent by 15 June 2006, in order to be included in the Proceedings of the Conference. The Proceedings will be available at the beginning of the Conference. The official language of the Conference is English. All written and oral presentations must be made in this language.

Place of the meeting

The V ICFFR will be held in Coimbra, in Central Portugal. This city holds a special place in the hearts of all the Portuguese. Rich in its history and said to be the oldest seat of learning in Portugal with a University founded in 1290. This makes it one of the oldest in the world.

Coimbra is well connected by road and train to Lisbon (200 Km) and Oporto (100 Km). Information regarding accommodation shall be given in proper time.
