International Conference
23 to 26 November 2016, Aveiro, Portugal
The Fuegored 2016 international conference brings together experts from different countries to a meeting dedicated to the effects of post-fire management practices on the restoration and conservation of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, directly or indirectly impacted by wildfires. The main goal of the conference is to provide a forum where scientists and local, regional and national authorities as well as forest and land management associations and companies, and NGOs, exchange their ideas and knowledge as a way to develop new approaches, methods and technologies on post-fire land management to ensure the future sustainability of these ecosystems.
The conference will be held in Aveiro (Portugal) from November 24 to 26 November 2016, and is organized by the Environment and Planning Department (DAO) as well as by the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) of the University of Aveiro.
Programme
The conference will be held from 24 to 26 November 2016 and includes two days of technical visits and one day of seminar for scientists to present their works and discuss their ideas on different topics related to post-fire land management and also the effects of post-fire on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
On 23 November 2016, a specific seminar is planned for young researchers to present their work and discuss their ideas. The activities planned for this day will be, however, dependent on a minimum number of registered participants (20).
On 24 November 2016 there will be a technical visit to some of the experimental areas of the EU RECARE, project in Miranda do Corvo (Coimbra District). After a fire on August 2015, erosion plots were installed on burned eucalypt plantations to study the effects of post-fire erosion mitigation techniques, namely mulching and logging, on soils, vegetation, soil hydrological and erosion processes and water quality of downstream aquatic systems.
On 25 November 2016 there will be a seminar for presenting as well to debate and discuss scientific works on different topics related to post-fire land management.
