The Association for Fire Ecology (AFE) is excited to host our 5th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A., 3-7 December 2012.
Purpose
The International Fire Ecology & Management Congresses were begun in 2000 to provide an international forum for the presentation of new research and management findings and to facilitate discussion of current topics important to this burgeoning field.
Because fire ecology and management are multidisciplinary studies, the 5th International Congress will provide opportunities for fire and land managers, scientists, resource professionals, agency administrators, local government representatives, consultants, university staff, students, and the concerned public to learn from each other. We will study scientific developments, discover new technologies, exchange and build upon ideas, and explore the relevancy of problems, issues and solutions from others across the globe.
Objectives
The best available science is of little use if it gathers dust on the shelves of a library or is deeply embedded on an obscure website. Come to the Congress to learn new information, renew and broaden relationships and gain perspective about learning and implementing new science information.
The 5th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress hosted by the Association for Fire Ecology will provide a forum on global wildland fire research, education, and management. The Congress theme is Uniting Research, Education, and Management. Featured invited speakers will put contemporary wildland fire issues into a global context. Concurrent sessions and an evening poster session will cover a wide range of topics and issues.
Participants can help shape the Congress program by suggesting special sessions developed on specific themes. A new feature isfree meeting space for participants to conduct their annual meetings on Monday and Friday. Special demonstrations and workshops will occur on Monday to provide hands-on experiences for participants.
