CLIMATE CHANGE & FOREST FIRES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN BASIN: RISK REDUCTION & MANAGEMENT

The objectives of the conference are to share scientific knowledge and practical experience concerning measures required in dealing with forest fires prevention and ecological rehabilitation under climate change, including offering a scientific ground for policy making.
The organization of the conference is led by the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection in cooperation with the Jewish National Fund – KKL in the frame of the CIRCLE 2 ERA network. The event will take place in beautiful NIR ETZION in Mount Carmel near Haifa.
The structure of the conference is as followed:
1st Day: Sharing of Scientific Knowledge
· Climate change and forest fires
· Forest fire management
· Post fire ecological assessment & rehabilitation
· Knowledge gaps and research needs
2nd Day: From Science to Policy and from Policy to Practice
Based on the scientific knowledge presented, policy makers and academicians will meet to discuss policy and practices, covering:
· Forest fire prevention
· The role of community engagement in forest fire management
· Technologies and innovative approaches in fire management
3rd Day: Professional Field Tour (by invitation only)
