at Aerial Firefighting Europe 2019
AFF Europe 2019 is the flagship event in Tangent Link’s
aerospace portfolio, bringing together major stakeholders of the industry
from all over the world – supported by the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC)
and the UNISDR International Wildfire Preparedness Mechanism (IWPM). Building
on the last year’s success, Aerial Firefighting Europe returned to France in
March 2019, bringing together over 500 aerial firefighting professionals under
one roof. Being the flagship event in Tangent Link’s aerospace portfolio,
Aerial Firefighting Europe 2019 will feature the largest exhibition to date,
more demonstration opportunities and a focused two-day conference programme.
AFF Europe 2019 was organized at the Base Sécurité Civile
Aerial Firefighting Centre at Nîmes Airport, home to the country’s aerial
firefighting aircraft and the main MRO hub for the fleet.
The Walt Darran Award 2019 was awarded in two categories – the Award for Safety in Aerial Firefighting and the Award for Industry Innovation and Advancement.
The 2019 Walt Darran Award for Safety in Aerial Firefighting
was presented to Riccardo Filippi, a CL-415 Captain at Babcock Mission Critical
Services of Italy, operator for the Government-owned firefighting fleet.
The 2019 Walt Darran Award for Aerial Firefighting
Innovation and Advancement is presented jointly to Kestrel Aviation of
Australia, Coulson Aviation of Canada and Mr. Wayne Rigg from Emergency
Management Victoria in Australia, for their ground breaking, collaborative work
in developing safe and effective practices for aerial firefighting at night
using helicopters equipped with Night Vision Goggles.
