“Through the Haze – The Role of Fire on the Prairie“

The fourth annual Kansas Natural Resources Conference will explore the use of fire as indicated by the theme “Through the Haze – The Role of Fire on the Prairie“. The conference is Thursday and Friday, 20-21 January 2011, at the Airport Hilton, Wichita. On Thursday afternoon professionals will address prescribed burning by discussing the science of smoke modeling and liability issues. A panel will provide an overview and discussion of the recently adopted Flint Hills Smoke Management Plan. On Friday, attendees will have the opportunity to select from over 40 breakout sessions on smoke management as well as a number of other natural resource subjects and also view over 20 posters.

The sponsors of the conference are the Kansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, Society of American Foresters, Kansas Alliance for Wetlands and Streams, the Great Plains Society of American Foresters, Kansas Chapter of the Wildlife Society, the Kansas Section of the Society of Range Management, Kansas Chapter Soil and Water Conservation Society, and Kansas Grazing Lands.
