THE CENTER FOR FIRE RESEARCH (CIFU), LOCATED IN TOLEDO, SPAIN, SEEKS CANDIDATES FOR 15 POSITIONS OF RESEARCHER
The Center for Fire Research (CIFU) is a research institute established in 2008, devoted to the study of the various disciplines, scientific and technical, related to forest fires. The CIFU is an organization of the Foundation General for Environment of Castilla-La Mancha, which, ultimately, is dependant from the Government of the Autonomous Region of Castilla-La Mancha. The CIFU aims a establishing itself as a center of excellence, of national and international reference, in the field of forest fires, with a focus on the effects of climate and global change on fires and ecosystems. The center will have its own facilities, of ca. 3000 m2, with laboratories and all needed infrastructure to carry out scientific and technical research, basic and applied, at the highest possible level. The facilities will be located in Toledo, adjacent to the Technological Campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha. Toledo offers outstanding living conditions, with all the necessary infrastructure of the capital of the Autonomous Region of Castilla-La Mancha. The city is connected to Madrid by free-ways and high speed train.
The positions being offered are: climatology and/or climate change and forest fires (2 positions); GIS and remote sensing applied to fire risk assessment and mapping and/or fuel mapping (2); fire behavior (1); plant and vegetation ecology and fire effects (2); plant and/or ecosystem physiology, with emphasis in water dynamics and the carbon cycle (2); soil science, with emphasis in nutrient cycling in relation to fire (1); animal ecology, with preference in invertebrates without excluding other groups (1); ecological restoration, with emphasis in genetic diversification to increase resilience in face of climatic and environmental change (1); environmental economics, with emphasis in the valuation of ecosystem services, in particular their capacity for climate regulation (1); ecosystem and/or landscape modeling applied to the sustainable management of ecosystems and landscapes (2).
Requirements
The candidates must demonstrate an excellent qualification in any of the fields listed above, with scientific publications that support it. Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of post-doctoral research experience at a center of prestige, and that are able to carry out their own projects. In any case, applications by recent PhD fellows backed-up by a sufficient CV will also be considered. The selection will be made aided by external evaluation from the Spanish National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective, the University Quality Agency of Castilla-La Mancha or other similar evaluating bodies.
Contract conditions
The selected candidate will be hired for a period of two years, at the end of which she/he will be subjected to an evaluation. If this is positive a tenured contract will be granted. The salaries granted will be in correspondence with the experience of the candidate. For this purpose, the contractual figures of the Spanish public university system (Ayudante Doctor, Contratado Doctor, Profesor Titular), or similar, will be used as reference. Accreditation by any Spanish agency, national or regional, for any of the university contractual categories will be considered a merit, and a contract will be offered in correspondence with the level of accreditation.
