Management and Risk Reduction

The conference “Climate Change & Forest Fires in the Mediterranean Basin: Risk Reduction & Management” aimed at sharing scientific knowledge and practical experience concerning measures required in dealing with forest fires prevention and ecological rehabilitation under influence of climate change, including offering a scientific ground for policy making. The organization of the conference was led by the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection in cooperation with the Jewish National Fund (KKL) in the frame of the CIRCLE 2 ERA network, and the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC). Venue of the conference: Nir Etzion, Mount Carmel, near Haifa.
The opening keynote “Wildland fires in the Eastern Mediterranean & Near East from the perspective of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction” and the contribution “Regional Perspectives: The Role of Formal and Informal Networks” were presented by GFMC (Johann Georg Goldammer) on behalf of the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Forest Fire.
