Australia — A community effort is under way to repair farms damaged during bushfires in western Victoria over the past month.
Work gangs from the nursery and day care centre for intellectually disabled people in Ararat have been out hammering in fence posts.
And a group of inmates from Ararat Prison has been helping to clear burnt trees and repair boundary fences.
One of the prison’s Landmate bush gang volunteers, Peter, says he welcomes the opportunity.
“It’s a good skills learning curve and I feel quite good about it, putting back something into the community, they need the help so it’s something I can do for them,” he said.
