9th World Forum for Democracy “Can Democracy Save the Environment?” The World Forum for Democracy is a unique platform for political decision-makers and activists to debate solutions to key challenges for democracies worldwide. By identifying and analysing experimental initiatives and practices, the Forum highlights and encourages democracy innovations at the grassroots and their transfer on a systemic level in order to strengthen the foundations of democratic societies. The Forum thus contributes to the evolution of democracy towards more participatory and inclusive structures and institutions. The ninth Forum is responding to world events. Natural disasters have become a regular feature of our weather. Climate change has been a key factor in increasing the risk and extent of wildfires, severe rainstorms, floods and other “natural” disasters. How to reduce the negative impacts of wildfires on the environment and humanity? How to raise awareness on these issues among civil society? Those are some of the topics in the Forum Talk “The impact of climate change on natural disasters”; with GFMC contribution “Climate Change and its Serious Impacts on Increased Risk and Extent of Wildfires: Why Democracy should play an Increasing Role in Wildfire Disaster Risk Reduction”; Council of Europe.
