DALI, Yunnan, April 17 (Xinhua) — The forest fire at Mount Cangshan in southwest China’s Yunnan Province was quenched on Monday and the scenic spots of the mountain reopened to tourists at 8:00 a.m. Monday.
Forests on both the north and south sides of the eastern slope of the mountain’s Malong Peak caught fire on 2:00 p.m. Friday.
The local government mobilized nearly 1,000 armed police and soldiers to fight the fire and eventually put it out after three days’ efforts.
About 1,000 people will stay on the alert in the forest area for another 72 hours in case of reignition of the fire. Enditem
