USA – A fast-moving forest fire caused by the wind keeps Florida’s neighbors on alert. Its mayor, Jorge Roa, asked that a Red Alert be decreed for the commune, because the fire would be threatening homes.

A forest fire called “Santa Mónica”, rapidly advancing as a result of the wind, keeps the community authority, neighbors and emergency units in Florida, Bío Bío region, on alert.

In conversation with La Radio, the mayor of Florida, Jorge Roa, harshly criticized CONAF, because in his opinion, they are absent from the emergency in the commune.

Likewise, he specified that the incident began after 6:00 p.m., and as a result of the strong wind, the flames advanced.

“We miss and miss the presence of Conaf. Conaf has been absent in this emergency. We clearly understand that there is an emergency in several communes, but we do not want to repeat the history of 2017, when more than 200 homes and more than 30,000 hectares burned, said the community chief.

What they tell us is that all the efforts are concentrated in other communes, but we also require support. The four fire companies in our commune are fighting the fire,” he added.

The Mayor of Florida implored for help, to prevent damage to homes and people. He asked the Presidential Delegation and Onemi to decree a Red Alert for the commune, because the projection of the fire would be threatening homes.

He also explained that the fire is out of control, close to homes in the Santa Mónica sector, and also reported a second outbreak in the Pino Huacho sector.

Fire units from Chiguayante, Concepción and Talcahuano concur in support of the Florida commune to fight the fire.
