USA – San Diego Gas & Electric will be hosting its fourth annual Wildfire Safety Fair in Ramona on Saturday, June 18.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center / Rodeo Grounds, 421 Aqua Lane.

The fair is the first in a series of Wildfire Safety Fairs planned by SDG&E. The others will be held in Alpine on July 16, in Valley Center on Aug. 13 and in Julian on Aug. 27.

“Peak wildfire season is around the corner and we want you and your loved ones to remain safe,” states an SDG&E flier. “Learn how you can prepare and protect your family and property and get safety tips from SDG&E and our regional partners.”

The free Ramona Wildfire Safety Fair will give guests an opportunity to talk to SDG&E representatives, Cal Fire firefighters, Red Cross workers, 2-1-1 San Diego staff and San Diego County Animal Services, said SDG&E spokesperson Denice Menard.

SDG&E staff who are expected to share information at the event include experts in emergency management, wildfire resilience and operations, vegetation management and meteorology. Some of the information they plan to share are related to public safety power shutoffs, community resource centers, and fuels reduction programs.

Participants can also receive safety kit backpacks and other giveaways on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.

“Attendees will immerse themselves in a fun atmosphere while gathering important information about the serious subject of staying safe ahead of peak wildfire season,” Menard said.

Presentations are planned by Cal Fire, SDG&E Meteorology and the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County. Other activities include a kids’ booth with raptor and critter displays, live music and hot dogs and beverages.

This will be the first in-person Wildfire Safety Fair in Ramona since before the COVID pandemic in 2019, Menard said. Drive-through Wildfire Safety Fairs were held in 2020 and 2021.

“Last year thousands of community members from across San Diego County and our tribal communities came out to speak with preparedness experts and receive safety kit bags and backpacks filled with everything from solar chargers and light bulbs to first aid kits, flashlights and evacuation plan information from the comfort of their cars,” she said.
