Conservancy board approved $4.3 million on projects to reduce North state wildfire threat

USA – The Sierra Nevada Conservancy recently approved spending about $4.3 million on six wildfire prevention projects in Shasta, Trinity, Siskiyou, and Modoc counties.

The conservancy’s board of directors on June 2 approved $21 million in Wildfire Recovery and Forest Resilience grants for the Sierra Nevada and Cascade region, which included funding for North State projects to reduce the threat of wildfires, according to the conservancy.

The board’s approval brings the total state commitment on fire prevention projects in the North State to more than $15 million in the past week.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection last weeek announced similar grants totaling more than $11 million to reduce the wildfire threat in local communities in Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties.

Here is a list of the projects approved last week by the conservancy board:

  • The $2.2 million Lower McCloud Fuels Management Project on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in Shasta County.
  • The $575,000 South Warner Wilderness Fire Restoration Project on the Modoc National Forest in Modoc County.
  • A $874,745 grant to The Watershed Research and Training Center for the Upper Trinity River Watershed Fire Resilience Planning and Prioritization Project in Trinity County.
  • The $245,000 Slate Creek Road Hazard Tree Project on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in Shasta County.
  • The California Deer Association received a $300,552 grant to reduce fuels on 200 acres on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in Siskiyou County.
  • The Trinity County Resource Conservation District received a $48,399 grant to the Ballpark Collaborative Prescribed Burning project in Trinity County.
