USA — A wildfire in California has destroyed four mansions and damaged atleast another four in the exclusive seaside enclave of Malibu near Los Angeles.

More than 300 firefighters battled the fire, which the authorities say mayhave been caused by a combination of strong winds and low humidity.

There have been no reports of injuries resulting from the fire. Malibu ishome to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

The dense stretch of luxury homes along 42km of coastline has been the sceneof several devastating fires in the past. In 1993, three people were killed infire which destroyed hundreds of homes.

The blaze broke out along the coast’s main road across from the ocean atabout 5pm Monday (0100 GMT Tuesday) and forced the closure of several majorroads.

The blaze began inside the Malibu Bluffs State Park; wind-blown embers thenspread below to Malibu Rd and set fire to the houses along the beach.
