Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp

USA – The USDA Forest Service, Southwestern Region, is seeking career-focused women or other individuals to become temporary, seasonal employees, and on-call wildland firefighters. These positions will support wildland fire operations over the summer months and can help pave the way for future, permanent employment and career advancement with the Forest Service.

If you are selected for this opportunity, your first assignment will be to attend and complete the Women in Wildland Fire Boot Camp. The Boot Camp will provide comprehensive, formal training and orientation. Upon successfully completing this training, each person will receive a Wildland Firefighter certification and be eligible to apply for a temporary position.

Training will be held on two consecutive weekends, at various locations in New Mexico and Arizona. To receive a certificate and be fully qualified, participants must attend both weekends and complete all required training.

  • Must be 18-37 years of age. (Exceptions will be considered.)
  • Must be in good mental and physical condition.
  • Must be able to pass basic wildland firefighter training (provided).
  • Must be able to pass the Forest Service Work Capacity Test at the “Arduous” level. This involves a 3-mile walk that must be completed in less than 45 minutes while wearing a 45-pound vest (provided).
