Australia: 5.10pm: Thor, the NSW Rural Fire Service’s Large Air Tanker, is on its way to assist crews on the ground at a bushfire burning near Waterfall.

4.45pm: Firefighters are responding to a bushfire burning in the Royal National Park north of Helensburgh.

A number of Illawarra Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews are responding to the fire, including volunteers from the Darkes Forest, Otford and Helensburgh brigades.

Another strike team is on standby in Helensburgh, according to the Illawarra RFS District.

The fire has closed McKell Avenue in both directions between Lady Wakehurst Drive and east of the Waterfall train station.

Access is still available to the train station and eastern car park.

The NSW Transport Management Centre says motorists should exercise caution due to heavy smoke in the area.

Meanwhile, fire crews have gained the upper hand on multiple bushfires burning at Nowra.

The fires have been downgraded from ‘Emergency Warning’ to ‘Watch and Act’. However, they remain out of control.

Elsewhere, Fire and Rescue crews have been keeping watch on a bush/scrub fire on an island at Bellambi Lagoon.
