Canada – Insert “This music is fire” joke here. Shambhala Festival in British Columbia Canada is under siege from nearby wildfires only 20 kilometres (12 miles) away from the festival grounds. The fire was man made and went out of control due to dry conditions in the area.

Despite this, the festival organizers have decided the show must go on but will have an early closure. According to the festival website, all attendees have been told to prepare for evacuation if need be:

“In the interest of public safety, we would like to inform our guests and the public, that there is an evacuation alert near the festival grounds. We are currently communicating with local government to stay ahead of the situation. BC Wildfire Service is currently fighting the fire with considerable force including 20 firefighters, 4 helicopters, 1 heavy equipment and 4 air tankers. While this does not currently affect the festival, all guests should be prepared for changing conditions”

It is a shame that the festival may not deliver all of their promised headliners, including but not limited to A-Track, Adventure Club, Slushii, Rezz, Black Tiger Sex Machine, Cry Wolf, Datsik, Ephwurd, Jauz, Kill the Noise, NGHTMRE and more. –See the full setlist here.

With 2500 staff on site and ready, we’re sure Shambhala has the situation under control should the fires burn to close.

The fire has not yet crossed the Salmo river. If or when it does, the event will be officially cancelled.
