Massive forest fire razes mangrove belt in diglipur

India Massive loss to flora mainly disaster buffers, mangrove, is being feared after fire broke out in the jungles of Srinagar area in the North Andaman region under Diglipur Tehsil. The cause of fire is not known yet. The fire is reportedly spreading fast in the arid region destroying a large forest area. The fire and the forest teams are working round the clock to bring the inferno under control.
According to sources, the jungle fire was reported 10 days ago from the Srinagar region. Villagers of the area after spotting intense flames raised alarm to the forest and fire team. The agencies rushed to the spot with fire tenders and other equipment to prevent further spread of the fire. However, the fire fighting team along with the forest staff are struggling to control the blaze. Latest reports say that the Fire team had employed all resources and the situation is being closely monitored.
Acres of mangrove belt in the uplifted region post 2004 tsunami have been reduced to ashes in the fire mishap. Villagers claim that dried mangrove woods triggered the fire that started to spread rapidly in the adjoining jungles. Every year, such incidents happen here in the uplifted dried mangrove forest region. Mangroves, our disaster buffers, are being razed in such mishaps. Recurring occurrences of such fire incident in this region needs detailed investigation as some serious foul play is suspected, said some villagers of the area.
