Angola — The State Secretary for Forestry Resources, André de Jesus Moda, has urged for the need to put an end to bushfire due to negative impact on fertility and protection of the soil.
André Moda said so Wednesday in Bolongongo municipality, northern Cuanza Norte province, as part of working visit since Tuesday to assess the situation of forests in the region.
The official urged people to stop starting fire and illegal logging to produce timber and charcoal, as such activities threaten biodiversity and eliminates animal and plant species.
“The situation is worrying at a time people start fire in protected areas. This situation results in deforestation of the municipality and threatening animal species as well as degradation of atmosphere, causing climate changes,” he said.
He said that his sector has been working with other institutions to raise awareness among population on protection of plants.
