USA– N.M. KRQE News 13 has learned that two people who died in a plane crash in Colfax County last week were on a wildfire related mission.
Kelly Hobbs worked for the US Department of Agriculture and Shannon Tunnell was a State Wildlife Specialist.
State Police say they were on their way to Colfax County to help curb damage caused by wildfires.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating.
Police say Hobbs had been a pilot since 1992 and had more than 13,000 flight hours logged. Tunnell had been a specialist with the state since 2009 and had extensive training in aerial predator management.
