USA —  Investigators said a 74-year-old woman found dead Tuesday afternoon as a brush fire burned nearby succumbed to smoke.

East Union Township Police Chief Tony Harris said the woman, Dorothy Fellin, was burning leaves, and a virtual autopsy conducted Tuesday night ruled her death was accidental and was attributed to the smoke.

Emergency workers in Sheppton discovered the fire in the woods behind the 800 block of Centre Street and found Fellin, of Sheppton, in a yard there.

Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Tara Dolzani said Fellin was pronounced dead at the scene at 1 p.m.

Firefighters from Sheppton-Oneida as well as crews from communities in Luzerne and Schuylkill counties were called to the fire to help extinguish it.
