Philippines — Forest fires that hit parts of Albay since early this month have been contained in two towns and declared out in eight other areas, the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol said Wednesday.

A report of the OCD Region 5 said that as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the fires had been contained but not quite out in Bacacay and Manito towns.

The fire in Bacacay and Manito had been ongoing since Aug. 6, according to the report posted on Governor Jose Salceda’s Facebook page.

It said at least 60 families or 160 people had been evacuated from Bacacay.

Some 170 hectares in Bacacay and 34 in Manito were affected by the fire, the OCD added.

The fire was declared out in Tiwi, Sto. Domingo, Rapu-Rapu, Legazpi City, Tabaco City, and Malilipot.

It was also declared out in Sorsogon City and in Calabanga and Tinambac in Camarines Sur.

Some 1,962 families in Rapu-Rapu were affected by the fires.
